Saturday, April 18th 10am - 2pm THE HUMAN LIBRARY
On Saturday, April 18th the librarians at Field’s Corner BPL will not be “shushing” patrons but encouraging them to check out live Human Books as a part of Write on the DOT's special event The Human Library. Individuals who have experienced prejudice and stereotyping will be volunteering their time as a Human Book, open to dialogue concerning their experiences.
The Human Library was
created in 2000 by members of the Danish youth organization Stop The Violence
and it is now operational in more than 60 countries. It was developed to
challenge
societal prejudices
wherever and for whatever reasons they occur, and to help people form a better understanding of those with whom they share their communities. This will be the first Human Library event to take place in Massachusetts!
